History

Legend has it that The Wild Goose Inn was originally built around 1640 as the farm house for the area.  It has been providing drinks (probably cider from the local apple orchards) to the local community since 1771 as shown in the stained glass display above the bar.

In 1856, an auction was held at nearby Coombe Cellars (then known as Morgan's Inn) for property owned by Susan Holman Boden following her death which was purchased by the Fowler family.  This property then became The Country House Inn.  The local farmer had geese which would attack the customers of the pub and became known locally as The Wild Goose.  Harry Woolerton bought the pub and officially changed the name of the pub to The Wild Goose Inn.
